Tribute South West 1 – West
Weston-super-Mare v North Petherton
Match Abandoned
Saturday 5th March 2016
Report By Simon Freeman
A local derby that had plenty of free flowing rugby and gritty defence was cut short after an injury to Chad Lowrie. Weston held the upper hand and moved the ball wide at every opportunity but Pethy defended solidly. Pethy showed enough composure to play their way out of trouble and turn the tables and create their own pressure after a bulldozing run from Lowrie which took him to within five metres of the Weston line when the nasty lower leg injury occurred forcing the game to be abandoned.
Captains comments (Damian Griffin) It was a sad day for us, After all the hype and excitement of the return of Chad no one was expecting this! This game was always going to be our most difficult in the battle to stay out of relegation and Weston came out strong and threw everything at us which we coped very well with in defence for the first 15minutes. We all worked hard in defence and then began to make a couple of breaks ourselves and it was from Chad’s long run the injury happened. We feel absolutely gutted for him and hope he makes the quickest recovery. He put everything into that game even though it was short and we now need to take his attitude and game play into the rest of our games in respect for him and that will start next week in a tough game for the Somerset cup final spot! It was good of everyone at Weston to be great with us considering what happened and we look forward to the rearranged fixture!
