Pethy 1st XV vs Sidmouth

On a foggy night at beggars brook, the oaks looked to get their first win at home in 2022. The game started from a Mitch Needham kick and from the off both forward packs were physical and hard hitting with neither side giving up an inch. However, despite their valiant efforts. The boys in white and black found themselves trailing after a fine maul from the away side. The score now read 0-7. Sidmouth continued to ask questions of the North Petherton backline with precise kicks forcing them under great amounts of pressure. But the oaks back line replied with some beautiful kicks into dangerous areas. The away side however continued to knock on the door of Pethy’s defence. Their persistence in attack was relentless and their hard work paid of with a second try after another maul under the posts making the score 0-14 to the away side. As the first half drew to a close some strong carries forced the away sides defence into disarray as Pethy piled on the attack. After winning several penalties the oaks were rewarded with a penalty try making the score 7-14.

Going in to the second half, both sides continued as they left off with crunching tackles and fantastic carries. Scrums were a plenty in this match, which the home side dominated. Carl brown made an instant impact off the bench and re ignited the spirits as a fantastic run caused a wave of cheers around the ground. Several phases followed after this and the home team found themselves yet again over the line making the score 14-14. The intensity didn’t drop off however. As both teams continued to battle right up until the last whistle. The final third saw some end to end rugby as each team searched for victory. Sidmouth began to edge the standings as the game drew to a close. And after a powerful scrum the away side scored their third of the game making the final score 14-21. An unfortunate result for the boys but it was a jam packed game of rugby with lots of positives to be taken from it.
